Who Is This Course For?

Students who are interested in contributing to and influencing society using mathematical approaches especially in business and technology. Numeracy is a compulsory 10 point component of the SACE. It is achieved by gaining a C grade or better in any one of the Stage 1 Mathematics courses. It leads to Stage 2 Essential Mathematics.

What Will I Learn?

You will study topics that support your:

  • Capacity to problem solve and apply your mathematical knowledge
  • Ability on how to approach new challenges by investigation, modelling and reasoning
  • Communication skills to describe the relationships observed in situations requiring mathematical reasoning

Topics are:

  • Investing and Borrowing
  • Measurement
  • Statistical Investigation

How will I be assessed?

You will demonstrate evidence of your learning assessed as Stage 1 through four assessments:

  • At least two Skills and Applications Tasks (SAT)
  • At least one mathematical investigation
