Who Is This Course For?

This subject is for students who are interested in the health of individuals and communities, and would like to learn more about ways to improve this. Students need a reasonable level of literacy and analysis skills to be successful in this subject.

What Will I Learn?

  • Investigate the definition of fitness, ways to be fit and statistics/data about fitness levels in our community
  • Access and evaluate primary and secondary sources to investigate the barriers to individuals and communities engaging in active lifestyles
  • Research the effect of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs on individuals, families and communities
  • Analyse the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns for responsible use of substances in the media
  • Research how the urban environment impacts on health and suggest plans for how individuals in Port Augusta can engage in healthy and active lifestyles

You will be assessed based on:

  • Investigation – Report on the barriers to active lifestyles – 40%
  • Issues Response – Reflective response to media campaigns – 20%
  • Group Activity – Presentation to promote fitness in the community – 40%
