Who Is This Course For?
Students who want the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal languages in general (eg. current situation, writing systems, unique vocabulary and grammar, etc).
It is also for students who want to learn some basic communication in a particular language (their own, one the class chooses, or one we have the resources for).
What Will I Learn?
You will study the following topics:
- Self and community – using Aboriginal languages to interact with others
- Language Communities – understanding connections to country, protocols, stories etc of particular language groups
- Australia and the wider world – exploring the cultures and languages of different communities, their relation with each other, and with other Australians and the wider world
How will I be assessed?
The following assessment types enable students to demonstrate their learning in Stage 1 Aboriginal Languages:
Assessment Type 1: Creating and Responding – Three responses
Assessment Type 2: Language in Action – One response
Overall, students need to show evidence of
- Communicating, and
- Awareness and Exploration
