Who Is This Course For?
This course is for students who are interested in environmental issues, risk management and outdoor activities such as Bushwalking or Canoeing. The course will require students to plan and attend a camp as a group with no direct supervision from staff on the camp.
What Will I Learn?
You will:
- Plan and participate in a variety of outdoor journeys and activities
- Investigate and critically analyze a range of environmental issues
- Reflect on strategies undertaken for the sustainable use of natural environments
- Critically reflect on outdoor experiences
- Develop initiative, self-reliance and leadership skills
- Work effectively as part of a group and reflect upon this
- Identify and apply risk management and minimal impact techniques
How will I be assessed?
You will demonstrate evidence of your learning assessed as Stage 2 through the following assessment types:
School Based Assessment:
- Assessment Type 1: About Natural Environments – 1-2 tasks 20%
- Assessment Type 2: Experiences in Natural Environments – 2 tasks 50%
External Assessment:
- Assessment Type 3: Connections with Natural Environments – 1 task 30%
Cost
The cost of this course will be dependent on class numbers and practicals chosen. Students will also be required to supply their own food for camp.
